Founder Kevin Green is passing the longtime neighborhood market to Stelios and Cristin Peterson of Greek’s Catering and Events.
One of Pensacola’s best known locally owned food businesses is entering a new chapter.
Kevin Green has sold The Butcher Shoppe after operating the neighborhood meat market for 19 years. New owners Stelios and Cristin Peterson have taken over the business and say the response from customers has been overwhelmingly positive.
The Petersons are already established in Pensacola through Greek’s Catering and Events.

Green opened The Butcher Shoppe in 2007 after working as a corporate buyer for a regional grocery chain and a national grocery wholesaler.
His experience sourcing food helped shape the market’s focus on quality products, custom cuts and customer education.
Green became a familiar face inside the store, regularly helping shoppers understand unfamiliar cuts and choose the right products for grilling, smoking and competition barbecue.
The business eventually developed a following far beyond Pensacola. Competition barbecue teams began ordering briskets, ribs and pork shoulders for events around the country.
Why the Petersons were selected
Green said the timing was right and described the Petersons as established local business owners with a history of community involvement.
Stelios and Cristin Peterson operate Greek’s Catering and Events and have supported local organizations and events throughout the Pensacola area.
The selection appears intended to keep The Butcher Shoppe under local ownership while protecting the customer service and community relationships that made the store successful.
What customers can expect
The Butcher Shoppe is continuing to operate from its Langley Avenue location. The new owners have not announced a closure, relocation or major change to the store’s existing concept.
The market continues offering fresh cuts, premium meat, freezer packages, specialty products and custom orders. It is also continuing to ship products to barbecue teams.

A Pensacola business built around community
The Butcher Shoppe’s customer base grew through word of mouth, educational social media content and Green’s involvement with local organizations such as Pensacola EggFest.
Many employees started working at the store as teenagers and remained connected to the business as they entered adulthood. Green has described helping those young employees develop as one of the accomplishments he values most.
Green is stepping away from ownership but plans to remain involved in community events he previously supported through the store.
For longtime customers, the most important part of the sale may be what is staying the same: The Butcher Shoppe remains locally owned, open at its existing location and connected to Pensacola’s food and barbecue community.
