Escambia County has approved a 5,394-square-foot restaurant at the former Dodge’s property near Plainfield Avenue.
The Chick-fil-A currently located in front of Target on East Nine Mile Road is approved to relocate to the former Dodge’s Southern Style property nearby.
Escambia County’s Development Review Committee has issued final development approval for a new 5,394-square-foot restaurant with a drive-through and 86 parking spaces. The 1.80-acre project site is on East Nine Mile Road at Plainfield Avenue.
What will be built?
Plans call for the former convenience-store building to be demolished and replaced with a one-story Chick-fil-A restaurant.
The project will continue using existing driveway connections on East Nine Mile Road and Plainfield Avenue. No additional access point was identified in the approval report.
The former Dodge’s Southern Style store closed in September 2024. Moving Chick-fil-A to that parcel will put the restaurant on a larger standalone site rather than its current position within the Target shopping center.
When will the new Chick-fil-A open?
An opening date and construction schedule have not been announced. Final development approval allows the project to proceed through its remaining permitting and construction steps, but it does not mean demolition or construction will begin immediately.
The county development order is valid for 18 months. That gives the developer a limited window to advance the approved plan, although the order itself does not establish the restaurant’s opening date.
Chick-fil-A has also not announced when its current Nine Mile Road location will close. Until the company publishes a transition schedule, customers should assume the existing restaurant will continue operating under its posted hours.
What the relocation means for Nine Mile Road
The approved plan includes 86 parking spaces and a dedicated drive-through on the former Dodge’s parcel. That configuration may give the restaurant more room to manage vehicle circulation than its current shopping-center location.
However, specific drive-through lane capacity and traffic-control plans were not detailed in the public news report. Drivers should not assume the move will eliminate congestion until the finished site is operating.
The project also returns a prominent corner near Plainfield Avenue to active commercial use after the convenience store’s closure.
Residents can watch for demolition permits and an official Chick-fil-A opening announcement next. For now, the relocation is approved, but its construction and opening dates remain unconfirmed.
